About Me


Mardian Shah Omar is a senior lecturer at University Tenaga Nasiaonal (UNITEN), Putrajaya. He is a coordinator for Malay Language programme in the Department of Languages and Communication. Currently at UNITEN, he is conducting the Teaching Malay for Foreigner Programme and Corporate Malay for degree students. He graduated from The University of Science Malaysia for his degree in Malay Studies. He obtained an MA in Linguistics from The University of Leeds, UK and a PhD. in Linguistics (Phonetics) from the National University of Malaysia (UKM). His expertise is in the area of Teaching Malay for International Students (Foreigners), Acoustics Phonetics and Phonology. Until now, he has produced three books i.e Malay for Foreigner Book 1 and Book 2, and also Phonetics and Phonology. He also produced chapters in books and a number of papers and proceedings. He was appointed as a honorary fellow for the programme “Southeast Asia Summer Institute – SEASSI” at the University of Madison, Wisconsin in 2005. He has broad experience in giving talks in various area such as Public Speaking, Creative Thinking, Creative Writing,  Effective Formal Writing, How To Be A Good Emcee and also Teaching Malay For Foreigners, at The University of York, Ripon England and at ATMA – The Institute of Malay and Civilizations, UKM.
